Horse training for the future.

Smart Horse Labs is a living lab and
high-performance centre where
horse-centred thinking drives
innovation for equine welfare.

Why we exist

Equine intelligence is the most underutilised resource in the equestrian industry. — Jenku Dietrichsen

Smart Horse Labs exists to ask the difficult questions — to identify high-value problems, reduce complexity, accelerate learning and transform promising ideas into practical solutions through focused innovation and real-world validation.

It’s about rethinking the relationship between horses, people and technology.

A community of horse people, researchers, educators and innovators building a smarter future for horses and humans.

Turning research into real-world solutions.

Truth Seekers

We seek the truth by putting the horse first.

What we do

Smart Horse Labs develops behaviour intelligence technology that transforms real-world horse and human behaviour into Lean Data — delivering measurable insights that drive practical actions to improve welfare, learning and performance.

We help the horse industry make better decisions through objective measurement, education and innovation.

Smart Stable

Three critical gaps. One connected ecosystem.

Across the equestrian world, our ability to help horses thrive is limited by what we cannot see in performance, what we overlook in care, and what we fail to share.

Smart Stable connects interactive technologies across these three areas — creating deeper understanding, earlier intervention and practical solutions that improve horses’ lives worldwide.

Make the invisible visible.

Perform

The problem: The equestrian industry is losing its social licence to operate.

ArenaBuddy is a set of horse and rider wearables designed to objectively measure welfare and performance simultaneously.

It gives the rider clear insight into how their actions affect their horse, helping them make informed adjustments to training, recovery and workload. Ultimately, the same insights can give spectators a clearer understanding of the horse–rider partnership.

StableBuddy

Bring nature into the stable.

Care

The problem: When horses are confined to their stables, they are forced to use their bed as their toilet.

StableBuddy is an interactive educational smart feeder designed to teach horses, through positive reinforcement, to defecate in a designated corner of their stable.

StableBuddy aims to substantially reduce labour, waste and carbon footprint.

DataBuddy

Know better. Do better.

The problem: Every horse generates valuable knowledge, but disconnected systems prevent individual insights from becoming collective intelligence.

DataBuddy is a shared digital health record that keeps everyone caring for your horse informed.

It is designed to radically reduce time spent on admin, so you spend less time chasing information and more time caring for your horse.

Get Involved

Every breakthrough begins with a question. We’re not attached to existing methods or opinions — we follow the evidence, wherever it may lead, with an emphasis on first-principles thinking and real-world validation. Not just a technology company, but an organisation committed to putting the horse first.

Our mission is simple: discover what genuinely improves horse welfare.

Join the movement, contribute ideas, participate in research, become a partner, support development, or help shape the future of horse welfare, training and technology.

Building a better future together.
